Senator Ted Cruz calls on the DHS to support border communities

Republican Senator from Texas Ted Cruz has called on the acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan to support the communities that are located near the southern border in Texas. In his letter to Secretary McAleenan he states that the influx of illegal immigrants crossing and passing through those communities has made local governments rise, "to this great challenge, providing food, transportation, housing, and medical services to asylum seekers and unaccompanied alien children." There has been many federal immigration reports of a rise in illegal border apprehensions. Just in May there were 144,000 people who were apprehended by border patrol agents trying to illegally cross the border from Mexico. The number of apprehensions dropped to 82,000 in July after President Trump reached a deal with Mexico to handle border crossings. Senator Cruz also states that "Residents of these communities have seen basic local services clean drinking water, power, public safety and the like taxed to their limit from a combination of additional use and resources diverted away to address alien's needs." These border communities have also seen a rise as well such as the Rio Grande Valley communities reporting 163,430 and El Paso seeing 111,200 more immigrants in just this calendar year.
